How to Sign “Bye” in ASL

To sign bye in ASL, raise your open dominant hand to about shoulder height with the palm facing out. Bend your fingers down at the large knuckles and back up, a couple of times, like a small wave. Some signers bend at the wrist instead, which is also common.

How to sign it

  1. Handshape: an open hand with the fingers together.

  2. Location: raised in front of your shoulder.

  3. Movement: bend the fingers down at the large knuckles and back up, a couple of times.

  4. Palm orientation: the palm faces out.

BYE, DAD

Bye, Dad.

Lifeprint says the bend can come from the large knuckles, as in this video, or from the wrist.
