How to Sign “Pregnant” in ASL

To sign pregnant in ASL, open your dominant hand with the fingers spread and slightly bent. Hold it in front of your stomach, palm toward the body, and move it a little forward and out, as if showing a rounded belly. Hold it there for a moment, then lower the hand.

How to sign it

  1. Handshape: an open hand, fingers spread and slightly bent.

  2. Location: in front of the stomach.

  3. Movement: the hand moves a little forward and out from the stomach, then holds.

  4. Palm orientation: the palm faces the body.

Tip to remember it

Lifeprint notes that signing it further from the body with a stronger facial expression can show a later stage of pregnancy.

Use it in a sentence
