Backend Developer Intern

Work alongside our CTO on the APIs, infrastructure, sign-recognition pipeline, and billing systems behind AISA’s learning experience.

Remote · Optional Cleveland, OH

Unpaid internship · Part-time

You will work on the systems that sit behind every lesson, every practice attempt and every subscription in the app, alongside our CTO.

What you’ll do

  • Build and maintain APIs in our NestJS (TypeScript) backend.

  • Work with our Appwrite database and Google Cloud infrastructure.

  • Help integrate the computer vision pipeline that powers sign recognition.

  • Support subscription and billing logic across Stripe and RevenueCat.

  • Write tests, fix bugs, and ship changes that reach real users.

Must have

  • Comfortable in JavaScript or TypeScript, or another backend language you can transfer from.

  • A working understanding of REST APIs and databases.

  • The ability to work independently, ask good questions, and communicate progress without being chased.

Nice to have

  • NestJS or Node.js; Appwrite, Firebase or Supabase; Google Cloud.

  • Some exposure to Python, TensorFlow or OpenCV; Git-based team workflows.

Internship details

Unpaid internship · Part-time · 10 to 15 hours per week, flexible around your classes.

Fall 2026 semester, through mid-December. Remote, with optional in-person work in Cleveland, OH. We are happy to support academic credit wherever your program allows.
