How to Sign “Feeling” in ASL

To sign feeling in ASL, spread the fingers of your dominant hand and bend the middle finger toward you. Touch the tip of the middle finger to your chest and brush it upward, then repeat. The other fingers stay spread while the middle fingertip moves up the chest.

How to sign it

  1. Handshape: an open hand with the middle finger bent forward at the large knuckle.

  2. Location: the middle of the chest.

  3. Movement: brush the middle fingertip up the chest, twice.

  4. Palm orientation: the palm faces your chest.

Tip to remember it

Lifeprint notes that a double movement of this sign tends to mean feelings, and that in faster signing the finger often does not touch the chest.

Use it in a sentence

GIRL FEEL HAPPY.

The girl feels happy.

This video matches Lifeprint: the bent middle finger moves up the chest. It shows the double movement, which Lifeprint describes for feelings; a single upward brush is feel.
